The HEDS-55xx/56xx and HEDM-55xx/56xx are high-performance, low-cost, two and three-channel optical incremental encoders designed for reliable, high-resolution motion detection. They feature easy assembly and are suitable for high-volume applications. The encoders consist of a lensed LED source, an integrated circuit with detectors and output circuitry, and a codewheel. Outputs include two square waves in quadrature (Channels A and B), with an optional third channel index output (Channel I) that provides a pulse once per full codewheel rotation. The HEDS series uses metal codewheels, while the HEDM series uses film codewheels for resolutions up to 1024 CPR. External mounting ears are available on certain models for larger motors. These encoders are TTL compatible and require a single 5V supply.
